    • Thomas Narramores, this Thomas's father and grandfather, were included in those Freeholders lists transcribed on the FODA website (one per decade) from 1733 to 1751. However, there was no Narramore on the 1862 or 1771 list. This can be explained by the death of this Thomas's father when this Thomas was young, too young to be a member of a Jury - the purpose for which the lists were compiled. It does not mean the family no longer held the same property.

A Thomas, no doubt this one, reappears on the subsequent transcribed lists - see the entries on the FODA website for 1783 and 1799.
Land tax 1798  Bishopsteignton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • The large landowners in Bishopsteignton at the time of the 1798 land tax were Templer and a John Comyns Esq., both having land of which they were occupiers, as well as proprietors besides other land with other occupiers.
However, much land was owned by parishioners who occupied their own, often small, patch.
Amongst these owner-occupiers the 3 paying the most tax were John Cove, Edward Pidsley and Thomas Narramore. The first two, whose land was subject to a little more tax than Thomas, were shown as occupying their land with another, Thomas was  the sole occupier of his land, and so one of the larger farmers in the parish.

A Thomas Narramore is also shown as occupier of some land in the neighbouring parish of East Teignmouth, owned by one Jane Langley. (£0 9s 7.5d) I think that was probably this Thomas, especially given a likely family link (Thomas's mother's maiden name was Langley). However, I am not certain that there was not another Thomas who could have been the occupier
Occupation 1798  East Teignmouth, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Gamekeeper
    • Between 30 Jun 1798 and 18 Sep 1798 a certificate was issued to T. Narramore, yeoman of Bishopsteignton, deputed by Lord Courtenay for the manor / land of East Teignmouth.
(In the Sherborne Mercury of 22 October 1798, p.3, cols. 4 and 5)
    Will 1828
    • Inland Revenue copy survives in the Devon Record Office (to see)
Occupation Venn, Bishopsteignton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Yeoman
    • Described as a Yeoman of 'Bishops Teignton' at the time of his marriage to Ann.
When his mother died in 1787 and when his first wife died in 1799 they were shown as of "Venn", and his widow owned both Higher and Lower Venn in 1840, so this was probably the land he owned, and as the land tax showed he was also the occupier he was presumably farming it.  In 1840 the two areas were in total 205 acres; this may well have been the area that Thomas had, although land may have been bought or sold in the interim.
Buried 11 Aug 1828  St. John the Baptist Church, Bishopsteignton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location  [2
    • In the 'Western Times', 23 Aug 1828
"A Grave Story. - Mr. Narramore, late of Bishops-
teignton who died about 3 weeks since was well known
as a most indefatigable sportsman, and inflicted death
on every hare that came within his mark. It is a
most singular coincidence, that as they were about to
deposit his mortal remains last Monday week, in
a grave freshly dug for the purpose, a live hare
was found to have pre-occupied his narrow dwelling
and was quietly seated there as if in triumph over its
      late mortal enemy."

I think the burial of an Elizabeth Narramore at Venn, where the Narramores lived, in 1799 points to Thomas having married an Elizabeth. (It was not the burial of his sister as she had married by then).
But did he marry Elizabeth Hutchings in Exminster on 2 Jun 1777 or Elizabeth Satchwell in Paignton in 1787? I think it was probably the Exminster wedding (there were other Narramores in Paignton, including I think a Thomas b c. 1762  so the marriage there was probably one of them, quite likely the Thomas born 1762)
The PR entry describes Thomas as "of Bishopsteignton", which I think makes it a more or less certainty that it was this Thomas.

Shows Thomas was of Bishopsteignton, and an 'Esqr'

This marriage fits with the burial I believe to be of Thomas's first wife, and the burial of an Ann and the fact an Ann Narramore was owner of Venn in Bishopsteignton at the time of tithe appportionment.
