Name John KNOWLING Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 10 Nov 1622 St. Saviour’s Church, Dartmouth, Devon, England Gender Male Occupation 1642 Involved with Newfoundland fishery - A John Knowling, likely to be this one, signed a petition by those of Dartmouth and nearby 'occupied in the Newfoundland fisheries', complain that their trade is likely to be destroyed in consequence of the number of Turkish pirates from Algiers and Sallee, the rebellion in Ireland, and the dread entertained of a popish rising and asking the government to do something about it.
A Stephen, likely to be John's brother, also signed.
Details on this Newfoundland website
Died Bef 4 Mar 1651/52 - Definitely before his brother George wrote his will; if I am right that it was his widow who remarried in 1756 then before then. A lease for which a 'Rachel Knowling of Plymouth, wid.' was a life dated 4 Mar 1651/2 would appear to be the Rachel who married in 1656, in which case (again if I am right about Rachel being John's widow) John must have been dead by then.

Father Stephen KNOWLING, b. Est 1580, d. Between 1632 and 1638 (Age ~ 52 years) Married - Children from this marriage:
I have gone thro St Saviour's PR for baptisms Oct 1604 - Jan 1616-7, only extra found (over using FMP search) was son Stephen.
Still to find: Sarah and Mary - and possibly others
Maybe born elsewhere before Stephen and his wife moved to Dartmouth St Saviours? Could simply be another Dartmouth parish; St Clement's and St Petrox' PRs don't survive from this time.
