Father Morty MCMAHON, b. Abt 1799, bur. 16 Sep 1851, St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England (Age ~ 52 years) Mother Elizabeth Watts PEPPERELL, bap. 19 Nov 1811, St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England , bur. 14 Oct 1838, St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England (Age ~ 26 years) Banns of marriage 29 Jul 1832 to 12 Aug 1832 St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England - The dates shown are 1st reading 29 July, 2nd on 5 July and 3rd on 12th July which is clearly nonsense. Were the entries June / July or July / August? Checking the days of the week for 1832 we find that 29 July, 5 and 12 August were Sundays.
At the bottom after the details of the third reading was written 'denied'; I don't know what this meant - were the entries written down by someone other than the person reading the banns (Richard Newman) and he denied having read the third?
The marriage register had an entry shows that the marriage did happen. (As did the following entries onthe page, which have a cross through them).
Married 14 Aug 1832 St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England - Bachelor and Spinster, both otp, married by Banns, witnesses: John Weekes, Elizabeth Jeffery (all 4 signed)
