In the census and at the time of her marriage
    • Fanny appears in the 1881 census as 'Fannie Turner'.
I believe it was Fanny Inman as:
      1. There seems to be no other entry in the census that could be Fanny Inman's.
      2. There seems to be no Fanny Turner born in Harrogate c. 1854 who could be the person in the census.
      3. When Fanny married a couple of weeks after the census she chose to spell her Christian name 'Fannie'.
      4. I can see how an enumerator could misread Fanny's surname as Turner when it was Inman. 'I's and 'T's of the time were similar, 'u' and 'n' often only distinguishable by what makes sense, and in some hands an 'r' followed  by an 'n' could have appeared to be an 'm', which just leaves 'an' being misread as 'er'. Easy, if the householder or whoever filled in the original form did not write clearly. The entries for the head of the household and his wife suggest the enumerator struggled to read the entry; they seem to be recorded with the surname 'Hamskin', a surname which does not exist; Christiana the wife was recorded with the surname 'Hanakin' when she was a witness at the marriage of Robert and Fanny, and 'Hannakin' when she died (in the death registration index).

In addition, when Fanny married fifteen days later it was to the other boarder in the house - to Robert Thornton, the other boarder in the house, and they were both then said to be resident in Mabgate.

    Occupation 18 Apr 1881

    • At the time of her marriage, according to the PR entry. Had she really changed her occupation since the census, only a couple of weeks before? I think it unlikely, more likely a mistake by the clergyman in completing the register entry, although Fannie did sign and so might have spotted it.

Is it this Fanny Inman? I think it probably is, unless she had emigrated. No further sign of her in England, right age, right place (city). But she is shown as a widow, and there is no sign of a death / burial of a Robert Thornton in an appropriate place and right sort of age. There are census entries for one who seems to fit with the one who married Fanny, shown as married but not with his wife. I think, therefore, that he and Fanny had separated before her death, and she had passed herself off as a widow, or was mistakenly thought to be one by whoever arranged her burial.

    Notes
    • with parents etc in 1861 census, servant in 1871
Not found as Fanny Inman in 1881 - pos marr as Frances Inman in Hunslet reg dist 1880 q4 9b 382 to William Turner (other 2 on page found tog in 1881)
Even if this is not the right Fanny (Frances) I can't find her in the 1881 census - did she die before the census? The death of a Fanny Turner is recorded in Leeds reg dist in q4 1880, aged 22 so not quite right but close enough? (or may be the Frances of the marriage but not Fanny dau of Daniel)
A quick look at the 1871 and 1861 census doesn't find a Frances or Fanny Inman of an appropriate age to have marr William Turner in 1881 so I do think this is probably the correct marr.

Of course, Wm and Fanny may have emigrated etc.

Details from PR entry (image on Ancestry, viewed 6 Aug 2023)
Names Fannie's father as Daniel Inman, a tailor, and age suggests born 1853 or 4, both pointing to it being the marriage of this Fannie Inman.

The witnesses were Christiana Hanakin (who made her mark) and Martin Johnson.
Fifteen days before the marriage Fannie and Robert were both boarders in the home of William and Christiana Han(n)akin.

Robert and Fanny were not toegether at the time of the 1891 census, so it looks like the marriage may not have lasted.

There do not appear to have been any children from the marriage.
