"Banns of Marriage between Joseph Fairweather Bachelor and Eliz Jellard Pepperell
Spinster ^ {both of this Parish} were published in this Church another several Sundays 13. 27th Octr & 10th November. 1799 by Messrs. Beynon & Rennells Clerks"
Unusually, banns were read every other week instead of every week. This is explained by Chivelstone being regarded as a chapelry annexed to Stokenham parish, as was Sherford as well, and the Episcopal Visitation Return of 1779 includes
the statement "Stokenham hath generally D. Service twice every Sunday. Two Chapels have according to imemorial Custom D. Service the whole day once a Fortnight."
