It is interesting that the marriage took place so long after the banns were read - about 18 months later. (were the banns still valid? - to be checked) Mary was a minor and Richard seems to have been some years older so perhaps her parents did not consent at first. She was still a minor when they did marry, but being about 6 months pregnant at the time perhaps further resistance seemed hopeless. It seems unlikely that they would have been too bothered about her being pregnant and not married - her mother had an illegitimate child and then was about six months pregnant with another when she did marry, and two of Mary's sisters went on to  have 3 illegitimate children between them, and one was also about 6 months pregnant at marriage.

    • This William Whitehead and Ann? - I think the evidence is quite convincing, although both William and Ann were shown as of Minster in Sheppey, and while I they could have been working there I have nothing to confirm this. Just under a year later their first child was baptised back in Stockbury where William was from.
Ann's age at death is consistent with the age suggested by Ann Prior's baptism.
But most convincing is that a number of members of the Prior and especially the Whitehead family married in Minster. In addition, 2 of Williams siblings married 2 of Ann's.
Neither of these couples married at the same time, but a couple who would appear to be Ann Prior's brother John and his bride married on the same day in Minster. They too were shown as of Minster, but there first child, also baptised the following September, was baptised in Bredgar (where the Priors were baptised).
