Family Elizabeth TOWNSDEN, b. Between 1766 and 1771, d. Abt 1847, Hollingbourne Reg Dist, Kent, England (Age ~ 81 years)
Banns of marriage 6 May 1798 to 20 May 1798 St. Mary’s Church, Chatham, Kent, England - From PR entry (image on CityArk), shows Samuel Griggsby and Elizabeth Townsend, both otp
Banns of marriage 27 May 1798, 3 Jun 1798 and 10 Jun 1798 St. John the Baptist Church, Bredgar, Kent, England - banns 27 May, 3, 10 Jun 1798 St JB Bredgar
Married 16 Jul 1798 St. John the Baptist Church, Bredgar, Kent, England - Banns were read first first in Chatham, declaring both as of Chatham parish, for three weeks from 6th May, then in Bredgar for the following 3 weeks (with both now said to be of Bredgar parish). At this time many from Bredgar seem to have married elsewhere, particularly in Chatham, making out they were of Chatham parish. Perhaps it came to light in Samuel and Elizabeth's case that they were actually of Bredgar, and so they had to change their plans.
It would have cost them, to have had an additional reading of the banns in Chatham.
Samuel a bach, Elizabeth a sp, both otp.
Marriage was witnessed by William Whitehead and Mary Whitehead; Samuel's aunt Mary Grigsby was a Whitehead by marriage - witnesses were probably her and her son or her dau and her son.
