    • Banns were read first first in Chatham, declaring both as of Chatham parish, for three weeks from 6th May, then in Bredgar for the following 3 weeks (with both now said to be of Bredgar parish). At this time many from Bredgar seem to have married elsewhere, particularly in Chatham, making out they were of Chatham parish. Perhaps it came to light in Samuel and Elizabeth's case that they were actually of Bredgar, and so they had to change their plans.
It would have cost them, to have had an additional reading of the banns in Chatham.

Samuel a bach, Elizabeth a sp, both otp.
Marriage was witnessed by William Whitehead and Mary Whitehead; Samuel's aunt Mary Grigsby was a Whitehead by marriage - witnesses were probably her and her son or her dau and her son.
