Gender Female Residence 1861 Gunnislake, Calstock, Cornwall, England
- Having only just married, and aged just 18, not surprisingly Paul and Patience had no children at this time
Residence 2 Apr 1871 Frederick Street, Plymouth, Devon, England
- Paul and Patience were with 3 sons and a daughter, John S, William, Richard and Emma at the time of the census.
(Frankfort ward, St. Andrew's Civil Parish, St. Peter's Ecclestiastical Parish)
Residence 23 Nov 1871 53, Wolsdon Street, Plymouth, Devon, England
- When Patience and Paul's son Richard was baptised
Residence From 1881 to 1911 Cornwall County Lunatic Asylum, Bodmin, Cornwall, England
- With her family at the time of the 1871 census, Patience would appear to have been admitted to the asylum between then and the 1881 census. It seems probable that she was there until she died, as she was there at the time of all the subsequent censuses up to her death in 1918, which was registered in Bodmin Reg Dist.
The 1881 and 1891 censuses only show patients initials, and the 1901 only shows an initial for the Christian name, but her full name is included in 1911. Gender, marital status and age all point to the entries being for her int he earlier censues. In addition, the 1901 description of her husband's occupation is consistent.
