  	From GENUKI; comment in register shows "a base child, in the thirteenth yeare of her age". No mother's name given. In my experience "base born" children were usually baptised in the same way as others. But Mary must have been born during the Commonwealth, when a stricter moral code may have been more firmly enforced. "Following the restitution of the monarchy in 1660 [in April 1660], the scandalous affairs of successive monarchs and their children came as a stark contrast to the puritan standards demanded during the Commonwealth and led to each level of society successively adopting 'looser morals'. " (from Baptisms & Bastardy in Burbage, Wiltshire : 1670 - 1860 Did the restoration mean Mary's mother felt she could have her child baptised without getting into trouble, or was it the clergy being restored that led to someone new in the parish checking that children were baptised?Some clergy didn't recognise the children born to couples who had a Civil Marriage during the Commonwealth (church marriages being banned) as legitimate, and enforced a church wedding where they could.
