Rowland STUBBERFIELD
Set As Default Person -
Name Rowland STUBBERFIELD Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Gender Male Occupation From 1580 to 1593 Mountfield, Sussex, England
Vicar - From "History of Hastings castle : the castlery, rape and battle of Hastings, to which is added a history of the collegiate church within the castle, and its prebends": has a list of incumbents which suggests Rowland may have been there from 1558 to 1593, but as he was only ordained priest in 1580 this does not seem likely, and the baptism places of his children suggest he moved to Mountfield in about 1580.
Or was it a different Rowland (e.g. this ones father or an uncle) who was incumbent of Mountfield?
The above book also mentions that "The rectory, glebe-land, tithes, and the advowson of the vicarage were
alienated, in 26 Elizabeth [1584-5], to John Downton, Gent, by George Stubberfield (Burrell MSS.)"
Ordained 24 Aug 1580 To the priesthood - Rowland, who had a BA, was ordained priest by Richard Rogers, Bishop of Dover (1569-1597)
(source: CCED)
Occupation From 1593 to 1621 Bidborough, Kent, England
Rector - The induction mandate is dated 28 April 1593, and from Rowland's will it appears he was "Parson" to the time of his death (staying in a living until death was ususal at this time).
Bidborough was originally part of the parish of Leigh, but was made into a spearate parish with the Church of St. Lawrence in 1218, owing to the difficulty of going to and returning from Leigh. (from "The Records of Rochester")
Died Yes, date unknown Notes - (Research):I have no evidence that I am related to Rowland and his family, but the surname is not a common one and they were close by in Kent.
