    • Edwin's death was reported in the Western Times on Saturday 8 Sep 1855:
      "Fatal Accident. - Edwin Spurrell, shipwright in the dockyard at Devonport, on Wednesday the 22nd ult., went in a phaeton to Tavistock. On returning the horse was started, plunged violently and ran off at a furious rate. The phaeton capsized, throwing out the deceased whose scull was severely fractured. He lingered till the 27th inst., when he died."
