    Notes
    • (Research):Who were Henry's parents?
For someone born in 1873 this is unusually not straightforward (without resorting to buying the birth cert or having ready access to baptisms). In 1881 he was with his Trant grandparents, in 1891 in a household where shown as nephew, although the wife was his grandfather's sister.
From the 1851 and 1861 censuses his Trant grandparents would appear to have had 4 sons. However, there is nothing to connect Henry with any of them. James married a Manning which could explain his middle name - except that the marriage was not until 1878 i.e. 5 years after Henry's birth.
There was another Trant - Manning marriage, of a Wm Trant to Sarah C Manning, in 1866. I believe these were Henry's parents. Although this Wm was not with Henry's grandparents in a census, he was with Henry's grandfather's father as grandson in 1851 (at Venn)
And the 1881 census shows Wm and Sarah's children were all born South Milton (like Henry, acc to 1891 and 1911 censuses; not found in 1901) and that they had children aged 12, 11, 6, 3 and 1 - i.e. a gap where an 8 year old would fit neatly.
Also with Henry's grandparents in 1881 was another grandson, 9 yr old Frederick. In this one census Henry was shown as born Woodleigh; Frederick was shown as born S Milton - was he too a son of Wm and Sarah, or were the birthplaces switched and he the son of a different son?
