Annie Sarah Pleone COCKSEDGE
Set As Default Person -
Name Annie Sarah Pleone COCKSEDGE Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Dec Q 1843 Shalford, Essex, England
- Place from censuses (1851, 1871), date based on age (7) in the 1851 census and researching her identity - as described below, leading to this birth registration:
GRO ref: Cocksedge, Sarah q4 1843 Braintree RD 12 28; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Harrington
Age on marr cert (when married Reuben Hambling) given as 47 (b.1843-4); when she was in court in 1894 papers given her age as 39 (i.e. born c. 1854-5); only death I have found to match was of an Annie S Hamblin who died 1953 aged 95 i.e. born c 1857-8.
I think the death must be of someone else, as this seems to be her birth:
GRO ref: Cocksedge, Sarah q4 1843 Braintree RD 12 28; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Harrington
Looking for a marriage that would make her a Rees or Roes when she married Reuben suggests her first marriage was in 1867. That marriage was of a Sarah, who was subsequently recorded as Annie S. Found both before and after marriage in censuses with her grandmother rather than her parents, but that leads to a family who did have a son Charles, consistent with her partner in crime, her brother Charles COCKSHEDGE.
Gender Female Education 1851 Bocking, Essex, England
Scholar - Shown as a scholar in the census, presumably in Bocking as that was where she was living
Residence 1851 Bradford Street, Bocking, Essex, England
- With her grandmother (her father's mother)
Residence 1871 Market Street, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales
- With her husband, two young children, her grandmother, an apprentice and two servants. One of the servants was a general domestic servant, the other a nurse, presumably present as Annie had given birth just 3 weeks before.
Misc. 1893 Defendant, found against Court 12 Aug 1893 Canterbury County Court, Guildhall, Canterbury, Kent, England
Taken to court for cost of late husband's suit - At a sitting of the Court on Tuesday (presumably the Tuesday before the paper was published, i.e. 8 Aug), before his Honour Judge Selfe.
Messers. Warren and Summers, Canterbury, v. Mrs. Hambling, Ashford.
This was a claim for £2 17s. 6d. for a suit of clothes. - Mrs. Hambling deposed that her husband died whilst a bankrupt. She never knew he ordered any clothes. - Judgement for defendant.
