Occupation From 1891 to 1911 Hoghton, Lancashire, England
Gardener (domestic) - An apprentice at the time of the 1891 census.
Living with his parents at the time of both the 1891 and 1901 censuses, so these censuses don't show where / for whom he was working.
Residence 1911 Chapel Lane, Hoghton, Lancashire, England
- Living in a six room house with his wife
Military Service to 13 Feb 1918 Royal Army Medical Corps in WW1 - Private in the Royal Army Medical Corps, 32nd Stat. Hospital
Died 13 Feb 1918 near, Mombasa, Kenya
- The CWGC entry for John show that he is remembered on the Mombasa British Memorial. This is in the Mombasa (Mbaraki) Cemetery, a civil cemetery but with a number of war graves.
However, those whose names appear on the Memorial are not buried there, rather all of them "died and were buried at sea off the East African coast".
I don't know if John killed or injured on a ship which was attacked, and maybe damaged or sunk, or whether he was travelling to a land posting, or working for the medical needs of those on the ship. He could, like some others in the Medical Corps, have died of disease, possibly of disease contracted as a result of contact with other sick soldiers.
Six others remembered on the Memorial died between 12 Feb and 20 Feb, 5 from South African forces and one from the Army Service Corps.

No Vogwill births were registered 1906-1919 outside of Devon so it appears that John and Georgiana had no children; the 1911 census confirms they had had no children up to that date.
