Residence 1881 James Place, Greenfield, Holywell, Flintshire, Wales
- With his parents and siblings. Strangely, given that he was aged 16, no occupation was shown for William, although he was not shown as being a "scholar" either.
(Flintshire is the modern county, not that of 1881)
Residence From 1888 to 1891 Gunnislake, Calstock, Cornwall, England
- At the time of his marriage 1888, and when his dau Edith died 1891
Occupation 1888 Gunnislake, Calstock, Cornwall, England
Miner - (from marriage data)
Residence 1901 39, Northumberland Avenue, St. Budeaux, Devon, England
- William and his family were living in Station ward in St Budeaux (St Burdeaux Ecclesiastical Parish, but Devonport Civil Parish).
In a 4 roomed house, with at least 6 children (aged 1 to 10) I imagine the family could have made full use of the space, but they had 4 young men boarding with them. Three were "labourers on extension", the other a carpenter and joiner.
The census entry is missing daughter Gertrude but shows William's wife's name as Gertrude rather than Grace; I suspect 2 people have accidentally been combined by the ennumerator.
Occupation 1901 Points turner - William and his family were living in Station ward in St Budeaux; I am guessing that a points turner was therefore a job related to railway points, but I'm not sure.
Residence 1911 Henwood, Linkinhorne, Cornwall, England
- With his wife, and 6 of his 8 living children: Gerty, William,, Ada, John, Percy and Georgie; Gerty was married and her husband was also living with the family.
The family were living in a 6 roomed house - a generous size for a miner.
