Michael RICKSON
Set As Default Person -
Name Michael RICKSON Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1661 (probably), Faversham, Kent, England
- At present I don't have very clear evidence that this Michael was the son of Michael and Dorothy. There was quite a gap between the marriage of his probable parents and the baptism of their first known child, Michael fits neatly into this gap, going by the dob suggested by the age given in the marriage licence when he first married. Also, this Michael was a mariner (like his probable father), he was 'of Faversham' when he married for the first time (and there appear to have been no other Rickson families in the town) and like his probable siblings he moved to Herne.
Most conclusively an Elizabeth Rickson married one John Barnes. Thomas Rickson had a daughter Elizabeth but she died in infancy; the only one I have found who could have married John Barnes was the daughter of this Michael, and in his will the probable father of this Michael describes Elizabeth Barnes as his granddaughter.
Date of birth based on age given in marriage licence.
Baptised 26 Mar 1662 St. Mary of Charity Church, Faversham, Kent, England
- I have browsed the images of the PRs for Faversham around this time and not found an entry for the baptism of Michael. It is clear there are gaps in the register in the lates 1650s - 1662.
FamilySearch does have the baptism, from films 1751865 and 1751866; these contain Archdeacon's transcripts, 1560-1812 abd Bishop's transcripts, 1603-1915 for Faversham.
Gender Male Occupation From 1687 to 1708 Mariner - Described as a mariner in his marriage licence allegation, more specifically as a hoyman in his probate inventory.
Buried 8 Feb 1707/08 St. Martin’s Church, Herne, Kent, England

[2] - In 1649 Dorothy's guardian was her brother-in-law Vincent Brice (husband of her sister Mary). Vincent was, like Michael, a Faversham Hoyman, and it seems probable that as such he knew and was a friend of Michael's and introduced the two; quite likely Vincent arranged the marriage.
