A Richard Smith married a Marie Waldrope in St Saviours Dartmouth in October 1619. A very convenient fit, a year before the first child I know of was baptised in Charleton - but is it the right one? Have I struck lucky or with names like Richard Smith and Mary was I bound to find one to 'fit'?
Googling tells me it was just chance.
In 1620 there was a visitation of armigerous families. Included is one small tree of Smith in Dartmouth. This has Richard and his wife, and shows his father was also living in 1620, and was 'of Dartmouth'. It doesn't fit as this Richard and his father. (see a printed version online)
