    Notes 
    • According to Chanter George the goldsmith had a son Robert who
      "matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford, 19 June 1675 æt. 15, who was a barrister of the Inner Temple in 1683, and was buried, 14 June, 1694, at the Inner Temple."

      The age is wrong, but I don't think George lost this Robert too and gave the name to a third.
      Chanter does not give any sources for this, but it was presumably Alumni Oxoniensis, the details agreeing. That shows Robert as son of George, of Exeter, gent. Whilst it would be a safer to assume it was this Robert if it showed George as a goldsmith, there don't seem to have been any other Knowlings in Exeter at this time, so I am happy to accept it was almost certainly this Robert.
