- ** At the moment my evidence for suggesting that Richard and Elizabeth were the parents of my ancestor William Wotton is flimsy. **
A Solomon who seems likely to have been their son of the name having a son Samuel who fits with the Samuel mentioned in the will of William Wotton junior (i.e. son of the above William) is really the only evidence, besides their link to Blackawton.
The other children I show - Crispin, Walter and Barbara - are just the names of siblings I think my ancestor William had (Crispin because William's son Walter referred to his uncle Crispin Wotton in his will, Walter and Barbara as William's son William refers to a cousin 'Richard Clift' and the cousin seems most likely to be son of Barbara, who had a brother Walter Wotton).
We know that Richard had a son Solomon baptised in 1607/8, and another son whose name was on part of the page now missing in 1605. In 1600 the top of the page is missing with all details, and similarly for 1612 the whole of the names are missing for some of the entries.
I will look at the BTs for Halwell (which survive from 1597) to see if I can find other children.
Did Richard move to Blackawton? - a Richard had a son Robert baptised there in 1620, but that could easily be a different Richard. Three Richard Wottons signed (or made their mark) on the Protestation Oath in Blackawton in 1641/2 (all men aged over 18 were expected to do this).
