with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 21 May 1751 St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England

- Or this may be the burial of his father, or of John son of Nicholas (baptised in Stokenham in 1728); I think either this John or the son of Nicholas probably left the parish: the register seems to have one too few burial of a John Hext, though this is judging from the index, it may be mistranscribed.

(Age ~ 65 years) Mother Mary, bur. 11 Nov 1795, St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England
Married - A John Hext (son of Nicholas, link unknown) had also been baptised in Stokenham in 1728. He was old enough to have been the one who married Mary and had the children shown here. However, this one was not only a more likely age but the fact he gave a son the name Ambrose, like one of his brothers and his maternal grandfather, stronly suggests this John. Since he had his children here he was probably the one buried here in 1783, although he could have been buried in 1796.
