  • Name John PEPPERELL
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
    Born
    • If mis-recorded as George, then age given at 82 in burial register, meaning born c. 1755
Baptised 13 Jan 1756  St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Gender Male

Buried 14 Nov 1837  St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Stokenham, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Burial register shows this as the burial of a George Pepperell, aged 82, abode Torcross.
However, I think this is an error and should show John, because:
      - there is no burial in the register for John between 1835 when he wrote his will and 1838 when it was proved
      - as John married in 1783 an age of 82 is about write (would mean he was born c. 1755, and aged about 28 at marriage)
      - the only death of a John Pepperell registered in Kingsbridge RD between John's will being written and proved was in quarter 4 1837, which ties in with the date of the burial
      - there was no death of a George Pepperell registered in quarter 4 1837 in Kingsbridge RD
      - there was a John Pepperal baptised in Stokenham in Jan 1756 who could well have been 82 by 14 Nov 1837; there was no baptism of a George who could have been 82
      - there was a George baptised 1758 whose age would have been close enough it could have been mis-recorded but a George was buried in 1819 where the age given suggests a birth of 1758 (and there was only the one George baptised around that date)
      - George bapt 1758 was the brother of John so the mistake may have arisen due to this - or through John having a son George.
