Michael GOATHAM
Set As Default Person -
Name Michael GOATHAM Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1674 Baptised 31 Jan 1674/75 St. Laurence’s Church, St. Lawrence in Thanet, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 7 Nov 2021)
"Goattam: Michael son of Jo & Margaret Goattam bap the 31 January"
Gender Male Military Service 1702 Mariner in the Royal Navy - Michael's will refers to him serving on HMS Comet, a Bomb ketch. This was involved in the bombarding of Barcelona (source), during the War of the Spanish Succession and was captured by the French. Since this took place in 1706 and probate was granted on Michael's will in 1707 (I think - though E Kent wills index says 1706) it seems probable that he died in active service - especially as there seems to be no burial record for him in St. Laurence (Ramsgate), though there is for his wife.
Will 14 Jul 1702 Written
The will of Michael Goatham (c. 1674/5 - c. 1706/7)
(a 1st cousin 8x removed of mine)Died Between 1706 and 1707 - Probate granted 1707, must have died before then, probably not long before but could be some time (will made 1702 so after that)
No sign of Michael's burial in the PRs for St. Lawrence. I think he probably died in active service in the RN - see 'occupation' entry.
