    • Shows Simon was otp (Stokenham) and Susannah Ryder was of Slapton, married by Licence, Simon signed, Susannah made her mark; witnesses were Mary Pipperall (made her mark, probably Simon's sister) and John Hext (signed, probably Parish Clerk)

Which Simon was this? A Simon Pepperell married Joan Burgain in 1751; legally this one was old enough but realistically too young for it to be more than a remote possibility. Simon and Joan carried on having children after 1757 so it clearly wasn't that Simon remarrying. Hence it seems most likely that it was this Simon who married in 1757. It could, though, be the Simon baptised in 1704, this Simon's father, if he had become a widower by then.
