Honour GAY
Set As Default Person -
Name Honour GAY Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1602 - based on date of marriage; not found in Modbury PRs which go back to 1601 (and include several Gay / Gey families having children around this time)
Gender Female Died Jan 1662/63 Slapton, Devon, England
- (assumed from burial)
Buried 15 Jan 1662/63 St. James’ Church, Slapton, Devon, England
- Name recorded as "Honnor Chambernoun". (This could be her daughter with the same name).
Notes - (Research):If Honour was baptised in Modbury the PR entry for the event may not survive; the surviving registers date from 1601 (apart from a few earlier marriages), and BTs from 1613.
There were Gey / Gay / Gee /Gea families in Modbury around the time Honour would have been born (and throughout the C17th and C18th centuries and into the C19th), but she may well have been born (and baptised) prior to 1601.
Images of the PRs are not yet on FMP (April 2016) but the transcribed data from them is on FamilySearch and the Modbury Heritage website. Images are also now available on the DFHS website, viewable by members.
No Honour can be found in these, but they show that an Anthony and Margaret had a daughter Rebecca GEA baptised in 1603 - possibly a younger sister of Honor.

Family Nathaniell CHAMPERNOUN, b. Est 1598, bur. 19 Nov 1636, St. Andrew’s Church, Plymouth, Devon, England
(Age ~ 38 years) Married 1 Oct 1625 St. George’s Church, Modbury, Devon, England
- From PR entry (image on DFHS website, viewed 25 April 2016)
"October Nathaniell Chamborne married Honer Gey the first day of october" - under heading 'Mariages 1625'
That the wife of Nathaniel who had a family in Stokenham was called Honour is known from the PR entry for the baptism of their last child Thomas (the entries for their other children only naming the father). That and the date, 11 months before the baptism of the first child in Stokenham, with the pretty uncommon name Nathaniel Cham(pernown) strongly suggest this Modbury marriage is the right couple.
