    • Husband's surname from bequest in William Harvey's will -
"Item, I give among the poore Children of Amy Rigdon daughter of my lo: Unckle Mr. Tho. Halke twenty pounds"
(Date and place, and groom's Christian name, from Sussex Marriage Index, shows marriage as between Amy HAWKS and John RIGDEN)

Amy is also shown as married to William Rigdon in the will of her father. This may suggest I have the wrong marriage here, or, I think more likely, the husband's name is wrong either in the will or (most likely) the Sussex Marriage Index. (William in the original will, which appears to be holographic, as well as the register copy, and it seems unlikely Thomas would get the name of his son-in-law wrong).

The date and place of the marriage shown fit well for Amy, the daughter of Thomas. She would have been aged about 22, i.e. old enough to marry without parental consent, and although in Sussex Udimore is not far from the Kentish border and in particular close to New Romney where Thomas had property, so it seems quite plausible that Amy might have met someone from that parish.

Amy married without the consent or knowledge of her father (according to her father's will).
