and Goatham, Thomas A q1 1866 Milton RD 2a 713; GRO online index does not show mother's maiden name and shows Christian names as Thomas Acres.
It seems his mother did not register his birth within the 42 days in which it was supposed to be done, but only after 3½ months; it is probably this late registration that has led to there being two index entries. (Events in one quarter are frequently registered in the next, e.g. births in December may well be registered in January, but there is not normally a second index entry).

The births of all Mary's six children, and the deaths of those who died in infancy, were all registered as Goatham. The only two to survive infancy subsequently appear to have used Acres consistently - when with their mother, and possible father, in 1881, and in the 1891 and 1901 censues, after which in 1906 Harry died and Bessie married.
