Living in Western Road, Ivybridge in the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses, yet the 1891 and 1911 censuses show their children as born in Ermington, although the 1901 census shows Ivybridge? Long important as a river crossing, and a good site to exploit water power in mills, Ivybridge only expanded in the C19th to become an ecclesiastical parish in 1835, and a civil parish in 1894. Hence when the children were born it was in Ivyrbridge within the civil parish of Ermington, but had become officially Ivybridge by 1901.
But if a new parish is created where do you consider you were born? - what it was when you were born or what it now is? The 1911 census reflects the latter viewpoint.
