- In the 1911 census where shown as aged 45, but the only death of a Catherine in Newton Abbot RD (which included Widecombe) in or before 1866 was in 1857. There was another in 1873 but it seems unlikely that Catherine would be recorded as some years older than she was. Born late in 1857 would also make her 104 in 1962 when a Catherine Northmore died aged 104.
In addition, checking the censuses for a Catherine Smerdon born about 1857 finds the one born then was born Widecombe, whilst the one born 1873 was born in Woodland.
Hence I believe this Catherine pretended to be younger than she was, or someone did on the census.
