"John Hawkes of Petham and Abigail Fordred of St Stephens were marryed } March.7 1699." - under heading '1699'
Thomas, probably John and Abigail's first child was baptised in Hastingleigh - perhaps this was where Abigail's family then lived. By 1704 they were in the neighbouring parish of Elmstead and appear to have remained there until John's death some 20 years later. However, when daughter Abigail married she was 'of Hastingleigh' so perhaps the family or some of it moved there, possibly to Abigail (the mother's) relations, after losing their husband and father.
John and William inherited property from their grandfather in 1728, and this is probably why they were 'of Petham' at the time of their marriages in the 1730s.

"[April] 22 Nicholas Swaine & Abigail Halke of Hastingleigh wth Lic[ence]" - under heading 'From March 25 1728 to March 25 1729'
It is clear that this Abigail married between her Halke grandfather, Thomas, writing his will in 1725 and addeing a codicil to his will on 3 June 1728, and he actually names her husband, which confirms that it was this Abigail who married as shown here.
Thomas changed his will because he was going to leave £100 pounds to Abigail, but gave it to her during his life instead.
