    Notes
    • (Research):An Elias married at St Mary Bredin on 18 July 1652 to Elizabeth Elam - this Elias or another?
This Elias (I mean the one who left a will written 1670) had a daughter Sibell - I don't know which wife she was the daughter of.

    • Unusually brief (and so not very helpful entry:
"Roe, Elias, and Elizabeth Colman, of
      Wye. April 9, 1596."
Married 12 Apr 1596  Ss. Gregory and Martin’s Church, Wye, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 23 May 2017)
"Elyas Roe & Elizabeth Coleman the 12 of Aprill 1596"
The gap between children baptised between 1605 and 1611 could suggest Elias may have been widowed and then remarried, but the East Kent index is fairly comprehensive for the area and does not have another marriage for Elias, and there is no burial in Elham for an Elizabeth Row between these dates.
A Jane was married in Elham in 1623; I suspect this was probably a daughter of Elias and Elizabeth whose baptism was omitted from the register. (I have browsed the PR between the baptisms of Susan and Thomas and there is no baptism of a child of Elias recorded there)

(see this page in FMP - in this case I think the data is from BTs; PRs only survive from 1764 and I don't think the marriage was by licence since not found in Cowper)
** have I attached the right Elias Rowe to Susan? **
The will of the Elias Rowe who probably died 1675, certainly between 1670 and 1675, suggests from the children and wife named that this was the Elias who married widow Anne Baker and then widow Alice Stark.
A man being left with young children was likely to marry quite quickly and so that the widower of Susan would marry soon after her death in May 1639 does suggest that he was probably the Elias who married in July 1640.
However, I have seen no evidence to confirm this, and a householder Elias Row was buried 22 Oct 1679. At present it has to be possible that that was Susan's widower.
(Finding the baptisms of the children of the Elias who left the will, Elias and Sybill, might help, especially Sybill as it is quite likely that both Eliases would name a son Elias).

    • From East Kent marriage index (transcribed data on FMP, viewed 3 Aug 2016)
The will of Elias Rowe of Herne indicates that his wife at the time he died was Alice, and with her children having the surname STARK it suggests Elias probably married an Alice STARK, and so points to this marriage being his.
