Agnes Mabel BRENCHLEY
Set As Default Person -
Name Agnes Mabel BRENCHLEY Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 26 Jul 1880 Newnham, Kent, England
- GRO ref: BRENCHLEY, Agnes Mabel q3 1880 Faversham RD 2a 825; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Jackson
Actual place from the 1901 census
1939 registration shows her dob as 26 July 1882. Like for her husband, this is two years later than birth registration data suggests, and like for him I am guessing the date and month are correct, just the year wrong.
Baptised 14 Aug 1880 Mill Cottage, Newnham, Kent, England
- From the PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 22 Mar 2023) - in the PRs of Ss. Peter and Paul's Church, Newnham
A private baptism, presumably at the family home. Agnes must have been ill and her survival uncertain.
Gender Female Residence From 1881 to 1901 Mill Cottage, Newnham, Kent, England
- Shown as Mill House in 1891, but it seems probable it was the same house that the family were living in ten years earlier and ten years later.
Residence 29 Sep 1939 Downsell Cottages, Swanton Street, Bredgar, Kent, England
- With Walter and Agnes Bootes were their son Gordon and daughter Iris, with Iris's husband Harry Goatham and (as at 19 Feb 2016) one closed entry, listed after Harry and Iris - presumably their daughter Jill born earlier in 1939.
- Role: Occupant
Died Dec Q 1968 Chatham Reg Dist, Kent, England
- After 1939 as in the 1939 register

(Age ~ 83 years) Married 24 Jul 1900 Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church, Newnham, Kent, England
- GRO ref: Bootes, Walter Herbert to Brenchley, Agnes Mabel q3 1900 Faversham RD 2a 1795

Details from PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 22 Mar 2023)
The 1901 census shows that Agnes had a nephew Reginald who was a gardener. Did Walter, also a gardener (and a groom) work in the same garden as Reginald? Is this how Agnes and Walter met?
Despite having been married nearly 11 years by the time of the 1911 census, it shows they had had just 2 children, although they had children born every couple of years from 1910 - 1920. Checking the birth registration index suggests it is true; there are no other BOOTES children with an mother's maiden name of BRENCHLEY.
