Set As Default Person -
Name Annie GOATHAM Relationship

- GRO ref: Goatham, Annie q3 1901 Medway RD 2a 690; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Finnis
Actual date from death registration index
Date and place from birth registration (GRO register entry) - with 42 days allowed for registering a birth without incurring a penalty, Annie's mother registered hers on day 41! Sometimes a date was 'adjusted' to be within the 42 days allowed; if that were the case here then the date was stuck to, up to Annie's death (sometimes it leads to people having two 'birthdays').

Actual date from probate calendar entry
Annie's address when she died is the same as that of Henrietta May, when she died 15 years later. Henrietta was a daughter of Arthur and Annie; so it seems reasonable to think this was the death of their daughter Annie. Also, the death registration shows an age fits the one who was born in 1901, and the date apart from the year is as given for her date of birth in the baptism register.
Probate 2 Aug 1971 Brighton, Sussex, England

Notes - (Research):According to the baptism register Arthur and an Annie had a daughter Annie. The baptism register gives a date of birth as 1890. There is no registration of an Annie Goatham that year, nor of an Annie Finniss (if Annie were the illegitimate daughter of Annie Finniss).
There is, though, the birth of an Annie Goatham in 1901, in Medway RD where Arthur and Annie and their family were living. The birth registration (GRO register entry) confirms she was the daughter of Arthur Charles and Annie.
There were a number of children of various ages baptised on the same day in Chatham, with a several family groups; it is not likely that the scribe would remember each individually and so could easily have made a slip.

In 1908 Arthur and Annie's oldest 3 daughters were baptised, between the death of their Arthur (1907) and of Annie (the mother) (1909). Strangely, the two youngest, Eva Alexandra and Arthur Charles, were not baptised at this time.
Subsequent records (marriage, 1939 register entry and death) can be found for 'Eva Alexandra', and with a unique pair of Christian names for the Goathams, there is no doubt the references are for this daughter of Arthur and Annie. The idea that both these children had died before their elder siblings were baptised can therefore be ruled out.
As Eva was living there is no reason to supposed Arthur Charles had died. However, no further record has been found for Arthur (but writing in 2020 I am sure he can no longer be living).
Perhaps Annie could not cope with 5 young children after the death of her husband and the youngest two went into care or were fostered / adopted. There was no formal adoption at this period and it seems to have varied whether children used their birth surname or that of their foster parents. I suspect Arthur may have used a different surname, and hence his absence from records.
