Notes - Shown by Vivian as 2nd son (Devon) but as 3rd son in Cornwall version. His brother John's arms on his monument in Tavistock church show John was the third son, so it seems reasonably safe to assume Thomas was the second.

Father John GLANVILLE, b. Est 1510, d. 1580 (Age ~ 70 years)
Other Partners: Thomasine LANDERE m. Abt 1572Mother [ - ? - ], b. Est 1514, d. Bef 1572 (Age ~ 57 years) Married - A reference to John the merchant in the Tavistock Parish Record book (in 1565) refers to John's wife as Alice. From this book it appears that in the middle of the C16th there were two Johns - 'John Glanfyld, merchant' and 'John Glanfelde at wyll'. Although it seemed likely that this John was a merchant, the continuity of a John as one of the 'eight men' of Tavistock up to the death of this John suggests he was probably 'John Glanville at Wyll', although it is possible that this John was 'John the merchant' and he became one of the eight men on the death of 'John at Wyll'. It is clearly unsafe to assume that his wfe / the mother of his children was Alice.
Although I show all of his children having one mother, given the number of women who died young at this time, especially in childbirth, John could easily have had more than one wife before Thomasine.
