"The xxiii of October was buried John Symmons in towne" under heading '1670'
Archive reference: 995A/PR/1/2
I imagine the comment 'in towne' was to distinguish him from another John Symmons (presumably his son) who was living in the parish but not in the village of Blackawton, or 'town' as it was referred to in the past.
(the age of this John would suggest it was probably his son who married in 1681, and this one who was buried in 1670)
