Robert BARLING
Set As Default Person -
Name Robert BARLING Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 13 Mar 1613/14 St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, Headcorn, Kent, England
- From KFHS transcribed data (on CD 19)
Shows Robert Barling, son of Adrian and ? (I'm not sure if this means the mother wasn't named in the register or the transcriber couldn't decipher the name)
Gender Male Probate Inventory 1667 - To be seen.
Occupation to 1667 Headcorn, Kent, England
Husbandman - Date from probate inventory, occupation from accounts, place from both (index entries for both documents)
Died Abt 1667 - I am guessing that the probate events and other information from them were for this Robert, given that he was born there, but there were other Barling families in Headcorn.in the C17th. In particular a Robert had chilldren John and Dorithe baptised there in 1618 and 1622; the death and probate events I have attached to this Robert could be that Robert. . However, a Robert having children in Headcorn in the 1650s, and a widow Mary being buried there in 1681/2, point to this one staying in the parish, and dying before 1681/82, so the burial shown here is most likely his.
Hopefully this will be confirmed when I see the probate documents.
Another Robert was buried in Headcorn in 1708, but not only does the burial of a widow Mary point to this one dying earlier, but also a widow Elizabeth was buried in 1718, suggesting the 1708 burial was a son of this Robert.

- From transcribed data in East Kent marriage index (1538-1754)
Shows Adrian Barling of Ulcombe married Joyce Butcher also of Ulcombe.
Ulcombe PRs do not yet appear to be available online (neither images not indexed / transcribed data) and I have not yet looked at them at an archives office, so I have not seen an entry for the baptism of Frances. There were a number marriages of Barlings of Ulcombe in the years shortly before the birth of Frances so this is why I think her parents were Adrian and Joyce:
The marriage licence for the marriage of their daughter Frances shows that consent was given by [blank] Godfrey alias Barling. An alias in a parent's name usually means that it was a widowed and remarried mother shown with her surnames from both marriages.
There is a licence for the marriage of a widow Joyce Barling to a Daniel Godfrey in 1619, showing her as 'late wife of Adrian (?) Barling of Headcorn'. Neither Adrian nor Joyce are particularly common Christian names, so the remarriage was almost certainly Joyce the mother of Frances, and this marriage her previous one.
The KFHS transcribed data shows a Sara, dau of Adery, baptised in Frittenden on 22 May 1609; he was buried in Frittended on 5 Jan 1609/10 (again shown as daughter of Adery). The Barling study shows here as daughter of Adrian of Frittenden who died 1610 or 1611, which makes sense given the location.

Family 1 Ann, d. Bef 1654 Married Bef 1651 - I can't be certain that it was this Robert who was married to an Ann.
No burial of Ann recorded in Headcorn, but I think she most likely died before 1654 when a Robert and Mary had a child baptised in Headcorn

Family 2 Mary, bur. 24 Mar 1681/82, St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, Headcorn, Kent, England
Married Between 1651 and 1654 - If I am right that the same Robert was married to both Ann and Mary, then they must have married between Ann dying and Robert and Mary's first child being baptised.
