Gender Male Residence 1628 Bobbing, Kent, England
- When his half sister-in-law Rebecca Barling married, from the marriage licence where James was shown as a gentleman.

- From transcribed data on KFHS CD 19
Shows James TONGE, Gent, yr 1647/48I think it was probably this James who was buried in Bredgar in 1647/8. One was buried in 1658 (referred to as 'the elder'); his will (PROB 11) shows that that was the James married to Joan.
Hence me the thinking this was the one buried. His wife was buried as a widow in Lynsted in 1663/4, though of Borden. There is no sign of James being buried in either Lynsted or Borden, although a James of Borden wrote a will in 1642, proved in 1648.
The will will probably confirm the identity of the James buried 1647/8.

Shows James TONGUE to Frannc/es CLARKE
A James Tonge was baptised in Bredgar in 1626, and Elizabeth in 1628, children of a James Tonge, 'gent'. While that would be consistent with this James I think it was another, the James who married Joan in 1621. The will of that James (PROB 11, 1658) shows that his wife was Joan and he had children James and Elizabeth. He too was described as 'gent' at burial.
(A James Tong married an Alice Clark in Tunstal in 1592, so there may have an earlier link between the families that led to this James and Frances meeting / a marriage being arranged)
