  	In 1841 Mary was living in Sortridge House, the house which she had inherited, with her husband; two sons were at school in Stoke Damerel. In 1851 she was with her husband and and two sons. Surprisingly no live-in servants are shown in the 1841 or 1851 census. By 1861 Mary had been widowed and one son married so she was living there with son John and one servant, plus at the time of the census a visitor was also present. (Married son Henry was 'next door' (adjacent census entry) in Bedford Cottage - no doubt not as humble a dwelling as it sounds, room for 3 live-in servants as well as the family!)
