Family Peter CORNWELL, b. Mar Q 1842, Lynsted, Kent, England
, d. 1 Mar 1909 (Age ~ 67 years)
Other Partners: Caroline GOODHEW m. 14 Nov 1866Married Between 1891 and 1897 - Since Peter's wife Caroline died after the census in 1891 and in the 1901 census Peter is shown with a wife Ann E., I thought he must have married between these dates. The BMD index has a marriage of a Peter CORNWELL to an Annie in 1897 - this appeared to be them. But viewing the PR entry it is clear it is the marriage of Peter's son, also Peter.
There was only one Ann Elizabeth who is a good fit with the 1901 census info., i.e. born Bredgar in about 1856, and that is Ann Elizabeth GOODHEW, who was Peter's sister-in-law. A marriage to her would not have been legally possible, being within the prohibited degrees at that time, and in a small community like Bredgar it would have been noticed. Hence they appear to have lived as man and wife although not actually married.
