Although her surname is given as Hinge it is easy to see how this could be mis-recorded and the evidence and the death registration clearly shows it was this Sophia: it not only names her father and his occupation correctly, apart from an 'H', but also Sophia's maternal grandfather, described as grandfather, was the informant, and it was at his home that she died.
Living away from family in Bromley Thomas would have found it hard to look after a young baby, and so that she should be placed with family to care for her would seem likely. With both of Sophia's parents being from Faversham it is was likely that she would be placed with family in Faversham and from the place of death it seems it was probably her maternal grandmother who was her main carer.
