Details from GRO registration entry. This names his father was Walter Broadbridge. Whilst this does not fit with this Walter, I think it was an error - I can find no evidence of Walter Broadbridge with an infant son Walter in Sittingbourne at this time.
The informant for a child's death was most commonly the father or mother, sometimes another relation. In this case is was Ann MARDEN. She lived close to the BROADBRIDGE family, but it is unlikely she was related. Present at the death, she may have been a friend or been paid to help care for Walter; if Walter's father was at sea at the time his mother may have needed more help than most mother's would. Perhaps Ann gave the wrong Christian name for Walter's father, or it may have been an error by the registrar or when the GRO copy was made.

Whilst all their five daughters grew up to marry, all their four sons died in infancy. I thought there might be an inherited (genetic) disorder, affecting just boys, but having seen the death registration entries for three the causes given do not suggest this.
