Although the 1939 register gives his dob as 17 Dec 1880, it seems clear from the date of his birth registration, his absence from the 1881 census, and his age in the 1891 census (9) that he was actually born late 1881 or early 1882. There is no reason to suppose his birthday was wrong in the 1939 register; he was probably born on 17 Dec 1881.

The 1911 census shows that 5 children had been born to the marriage. I think this must include Clara, although clearly not born to the marriage, and I think most likely not Thomas' daughter. There is a gap between their children born 1874 and 1878, but although several KEMPs with a mother's maiden name of BAKER were born in Milton RD c. 1876, the two most likely can be ruled out as sons of two other KEMP / BAKER couples.
The 1911 census shows that 5 children had been born to the marriage, of whom 4 were still living. This may or may not include Clara.
