The main reason for thinking this is the discrepancy regarding his mother's birthplace - said in the will of Peter (1499) to be in Shaftesbury but on the gravestone in Poltimore it indicates that Agnes was buried there.
The will of Walter Pauncefoot, written in 1585, makes one Peter Bamfield an executor, but unfortunately Walter's link to Peter is not shown. Walter was a brother-in-law of Peter, son of John and Agnes, but of course if this Peter also had a son Peter then he would be Walter's nephew (by marriage) - either could easily have been chosen by Walter as his executor.
Although my estimate of the dob of son John might suggest only one Peter, because it is based on a string of estimates, each of which could have been a few years out, two is possible.
