Notes - Nephew and heir to Sir Lewis Clifford, according to Roskell, 'Sir Arnald Savage of Bobbing', Arch Cant v. 70, 1956, p. 69. Lots of trees shows William as the son of Sir Lewis.
The will of Lewis mentioning his daughter and son-in-law but no sons would seem to suggest he was most likely the uncle not the father of William.
Hasted does show him as the son of Lewis, but this is just after describing William's wife as Eleanor; Bellewes points out that Hasted makes a mistake about Elizabeth four times, muddling her name or otherwise, including contradicting himself! Clearly Hasted cannot be trusted.
