George BROWN
Set As Default Person -
Name George BROWN Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born - The fact he named a son Josiah suggests he was closely related to the Josiah Brown who had children baptised in Earsdon at a similar time to George. Looking for Josiah's origins, he would appear to have been baptised in Bedlington, the son of Francis and Jane. George named his first daughter Jane and his first son Francis. I think there can be little doubt but that he was the son of Francis and Jane, although I have found no baptism record.
Date estimated from the date of his marriage to be about 1720; taking into account the dates of baptisms of the children of Francis and Jane I think most likely about 1724. Looking for all baptisms in Bedlington of children of couples called Francis and Jane there is a George Bone who fits perfectly.
Baptised 5 Jan 1724/25 St. Cuthbert’s Church, Bedlington, Northumberland, England
- From FamilySearch, shows George Bone, son of Francis and Jane Bone.
There was no Bone family with these names in Bedlington; I am sure that Bone must be a mis-recording or mis-transciption of Brown.
Gender Male Residence From 1762 to 1794 Blyth, Earsdon, Northumberland, England
- Recorded when his son Josiah was baptised, and when George was buried. (He had probably lived there from earlier, perhaps all his life, but the BTs only survive from 1762 and I have not had a chance to see the PRs).
Occupation Blacksmith - Recorded in burial entry
Buried 15 Jun 1794 St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England
- From NBI, transcribed data from PRs
Shows George Brown, abode South Blyth

Shows Francis Browne married Jane Wheatley
In addition to the children shown a Francis, son of Francis was baptised in Tynemouth in 1730 and Frances, daughter of Francis, in Earsdon in 1733; I think these were probably both children of a different Francis (the dates would suggest that)

Family Ann STOKOE, bap. 17 Apr 1722, St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England
, bur. 20 Jun 1793, St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England
(Age ~ 71 years) Married 19 Jan 1747/48 St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England
- From FamilySearch (transcribed data)
Shoes George Brown married Ann Stohoe.
(not clear whether date, shown as 1747, OS or NS - FS has a mixture of the two)
Stohoe only seems to exist as a mis-transcription; I believe the name should be Stokoe. (Also, she is recorded as a Stoko in Boyd's marriage index)
