  • Name George WILDBORE
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
    Born Est 1534
    • Based on date of first child suspected to be his. Records of baptisms in Minster survive from 1557, but there is no Wildbore until 1562, so it seems unlikely there were earlier children of George's probable first marriage baptised before the start of the register.
    Gender Male
Occupation to 1606  Totthill, Minster in Thanet, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Husbandman
    • At the time of his death (from his will).
At least some of the land he farmed was 'owned' by his brother-in-law by his second marriage, Richard Sackett, as in his will Richard   bequeathed land occupied by George and one other (John Bright) to his sister, George's wife Alice, with the reversion to George and Alice's sons Jeremy and Edward.
(Although this land was at Totthill and that is the place I show here,  some may have been elsewhere; a persons land was not necessarily continguous).
    Will 23 Feb 1606/07
    Written

    • Between writing his will and being buried
Buried 26 Feb 1606/07  St. Mary the Virgin Church, Minster in Thanet, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location

"Georgius wildbore domesticus" (The last 'letter' of domesticus looks like a 9 - very similar to a g - I believe is the symbol used as an abbreviation for 'us'; usually written superscript, though isn't in this case. It indicates George was a householder.)

    Married Bef 1562
    • Since George left a bequest to a daughter Dennys in his will, and there is no sign of a baptism of a Dennys / Dionisia from his marriage to Alice Sackett, I think she was probably the Dennys baptised in 1565. It seems likely that the three children baptised in 1562, 1565 and 1570 had the same parents, so I think it probable all 3 were children of George. (No parents were named in the PR until Sep. 1571). An Alice was buried in 1571; whilst this could have been another sibling of the 3 but who had been baptised before the start of the register, it seems most likely it was George's wife before Alice Sackett / the mother of Dennys et al.; her burial was probably at Minster and so should appear in the register and I have found no other.

"julii 9. nupti erant Georgius wildbore et alicia pamplet vidua."
(When George married Alice she was shown as a widow, he was not recorded as a widower. However, looking at several pages of marriages in Minster around this time there were quite a number of brides recorded as widow, not one groom shown as widower. I think it inconceivable there were no widowers remarrying in the period checked; it seems the grooms marital status was not considered worth recording).
