Clearly shows father as John - I suspect this is a slip, and that the father was Samuel. I have found no other Gothams in or near Plymouth, so far as I can tell from online resources, at this period. But it could be that Samuel had a brother John, especially given that I haven't found Samuel's baptism, in which case Joan(e/na) was a sufficiently common name that it's far from outside the realms of possibility that they could both have married one.
