Peter GOTHAM
Set As Default Person -
Name Peter GOTHAM Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1720 - A vague estimate based on him having a daughter, probably a child at the time, buried in 1761
Gender Male Died Yes, date unknown Notes - (Research):Quite an unusual Christian name at that period; was Peter closely related to (perhaps grandson of) Peter baptised 1677 in Abbotskerswell?
A Peter and Joanna Gotham had a dau Tomison baptised on 9 Dec 1770 at St. John Horsleydown, Bermondsey, Southwark (born 13 Nov). Peter was a mariner - was it this Peter?
Was there some confusion with the surname GOWEN?
There was a Peter Gowen baptised in Plymouth in 1729, son of Peter and Mary. There were quite a number of 'GOWEN' CMB events in Plymouth, and no reason to think that generally the name GOWEN was a variant of Gotham. There was also a burial in 1760 - nothing to indicate whether of the one baptised in 1729 or of his father. If there was some confusion and the Elizabeth dau of Peter Gotham buried in 1760 was actually a Gowen, then the widow Elizabeth Gotham who married in 1760/1 could have been the widow of Peter Gowen who was buried in 1760.
