** I don't know that Susanna was the daughter of Samuel and Joan **
I have not found a baptism, either indexed on FMP, or by browsing through the baptisms at Charles Church from 1672 (for Greening) to the baptism of Amy in 1677/8. It seems likely the Susanna who married Thomas Holton was the daughter of Samuel and Joan, not only because they appear to tbe the only Gotham family settled in Plymouth at the time, but also because of the gap between their marriage in 1674 and the baptism of Amy.

However, in 1674 a John and Joan had a daughter Frances baptised in Plymouth. There is no previous or subsequent sign of them in Plymouth, and I think John and Joan are probably the same couple who had a daughter Susanna baptised in Topsham in 1677/8. Given their link with Plymouth, was it their daughter Susanna who married Thomas Holton?
Weight was added to the idea that Susanna was the daughter of Samuel and Joan by their only being a week between the burial of Joan Gotham (wife of Samuel) and Susanna Holton (the one who married Thomas OR their daughter). It seems too much to be co-incidence, more likely an infection passed from (grand)mother to (grand)daughter. However, if Samuel and John Gotham were related, then there still need not have been a coincidence - Susanna Holton could have picked up the infection when visiting or caring for her (great) aunt.
    Gender Female
Buried 28 May 1729  St. Andrew’s Church, Plymouth, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Just a week after the Joan Gotham I think was her mother, I doubt if this was co-incidence. I suspect that Susanna picked up the same disease that her mother died of when visiting or caring for her mother.

n.b. another Susanna Holton was buried in Plymouth in 1633. Holton was a rare name in Plymouth and I think the other was this Susanna's daughter, but I may have the burials the wrong way around.

Under heading "Weddings July 1698" - "[6] Thomas Holton of North Yarmouth & Susan[n]a Gotham of Plymo. Li."

Holton was an uncommon name in Devon, although a Grace was buried in Plymouth in 1699. It would seem probable it was a child of Thomas and Susanna, except that there is no 'daugr of ...' after her name; many at this time do have such comments (12 out of the 15 burials at Charles Church in May 1699 are shown as son or daughter of ... so it seems to suggest Grace was probably not a young child.
An Elizabeth Holton, no known link to this family, was also buried at St. Andrews on 14 Mar 1713.
