Gender Male Apprenticeship From 30 Sep 1727 Chudleigh, Devon, England
Apprenticed to William Sprye, yeoman - Christopher Gotham was apprenticed to William Sprye, yeoman in Chudleigh in 1727 (as a Parish Apprentice) to learn husbandry. Christopher would have been about 12 when placed. Fourteen was the usual age at which to be placed as an apprentice by parents, but a pauper (parish) apprentice could be placed from the age or 7, later raised to 9. Possibly because he was placed a little older than many, he was to be an apprentice until he was twenty four, rather than the more common 21.
(Record at the DHC, ref. 3009A-99/PO20/447)
Died Bef 1760 - An Elizabeth Gotham remarried in Plymouth as a widow in 1760, I think she can only have been this Elizabeth indicating Christopher had died.
