    Notes
    • I believe that William was from Devon, the son of William and Anne nee Cumming. William lost his father as a young child and his mother remarried, to one Giles Narramore; it would seem almost certain that the name of William's second son was after the step-father who brought William up, and his 3rd son after a half-brother.
    • (Research):Could be the Wm bapt Tonge 1765, BUT "Narramore" - almost exclusively a Devon name in the 1881 census: I guess this is a Devonshire Goatham family.
Also, the William bapt in Tonge 1765 would seem to be the one buried in Bredgar in 1840; whilst this one with a family in Deptford could have moved to Bredgar - if he was the Tonge one he'd have been returning back near to his birthplace (and to the village where his brothers were living) it seems more likely he would have remained in the Deptford area and died there.

Although the Robert Goatham of Rotherhithe who wrote a will in 1804 (when well) which was proved in 1813 had family in and near Deptford I believe this was a co-incidence. Both the Kent Goathams and Devon Gothams had mariners in the family, which was probably important in their settling in the Thames-side parishes.

But was it the marriage of this William to a Mary?
I am fairly sure it was; the date is appropriate and there is no sign of a William Gotham in Plymouth before this date or this couple afterwards.
Unfortunately the PR entry for the marriage does not give William's occupation, but the banns book might.
